Laura joined Dumont in 2000, when she was hired to spearhead the launch of the firm’s litigation department. In 2008 she was named Managing Partner and has since helped to fully digitize the firm’s systems and improve efficiencies and capabilities to better meet clients’ needs. She has more than 30 years of experience in Intellectual Property and was Deputy Director of Unfair Competition Prevention at the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI). Laura’s broad expertise enables her to work on an array of IP matters. She advises clients on how to enhance protection of their trademark portfolios and helps to plan both patent and trademark litigation strategies. She is the main contact with the firm’s clients and oversees all teams to deliver quality IP legal services.

As Managing Partner, Laura has modernized Dumont’s image, as well as developed the depth of certain practice areas further to achieve complete client satisfaction. She has recruited lawyers and engineering leaders in the field to support and enhance her team and to provide legal services related to IP, such as regulatory, corporate, IT, data protection, and valuation of IP assets. She also successfully implemented the complete digitalization of Dumont’s archives and can render a paperless service if clients so wish.

Under Laura’s supervision, Dumont achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification (by TUV Rheinland®) for having a quality management system. Dumont is the first IP firm in Mexico that has been certified in all areas.

Her practice includes the complete life cycle of Intellectual Property rights, from consultancy to application, to resolving disputes involving these rights.

Laura has a bachelor’s degree in Law granted with honors from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM). She is specialized in Law of Intellectual Property, Corporate, Civil, Constitutional and Environmental Law (Mentions of honor) from the Universidad Panamericana and has a diploma in Contracts from the ITAM.

She has taught Copyright and Intellectual Property Law at various universities in Mexico City and the Mexican Republic. She also teaches Clinical Training in Intellectual Property courses at AMPPI, the Mexican Chapter of AIPPI and at the IMPPI (MPTO)

Laura has published articles on various topics in top trade publications, including Managing Intellectual Property magazine (MIP), Lawyer Monthly magazine, and IPKat. She also has been asked to speak at several conferences on issues related to Intellectual Property.

Laura is a Council Member of MARQUES and project leader in the International Trademark and Practice Team at the same organization. She is Co-Chair of the Standing Committee on Geographical Indications in AIPPI and the Chair of the Women’s Committee of AMPPI (Mexican Chapter of AIPPI). She is a member of the Famous and Well-Known Trademarks Committee of INTA as well as being part of the Women Initiative in that same organization. She is also the Deputy Editor for Spanish language for Juriste Magazine, published by the UIA (Union Internationale des Avocats) in which she is also part of the Governing Board. Furthermore, she is a member of the Marca País committee at Asipi and member of other national and international professional associations, including Barra Mexicana Colegio de Abogados, AIPF, AIPLA, ECTA and PTMG.

Outstandingly, she works and lectures on D&I topics which is one of her passions. Finally, she has been three times recipient of the award “The Best IP Lawyer in Latin America” by Women in Business in Law Awards as well as many other accolades for her efforts on D&I.
