Víctor Garrido

Partner and Head of Patents

Victor joined Dumont as a patent analyst in 2009 and currently serves as Head of Patents. He has worked in industrial property since 2001 for some of the most renowned local firms in the field and has acquired experience across a range of matters by representing a variety of clients in a plurality of technological fields, from domestic individual inventors and start-ups to Fortune Global 500 companies.

Victor’s professional practice focuses on issues related to the analysis and examination of patents, industrial designs, and utility models. Other aspects of his practice include prior art searches, clearance analysis, patentability analysis and technical opinions for litigation.

Dumont’s expertise in patent drafting makes it stand out from other Latin American IP firms, and Victor’s role as the Head of Patent is crucial in this respect.

As Head of Patents, Víctor is responsible for the development of Dumont’s patent client portfolio, as well as the supervision and the improvement of the patent-related services provided by the firm.

Víctor has published articles in some of the most recognized IP magazines on topics such as computer-implemented inventions, patentability requirements, and substantive issues surrounding the Mexican patent system.

Some of the recognitions Víctor has received include IAM 1000 “Recommended Individual” since 2018, “IP Star” by Managing Intellectual Property since 2020, “Rising Star” by Legal 500 in 2021, and IAM Strategy 300 “Recommended Individual” in 2021. He is a member of international associations including INTA, AIPPI and AIPF, and is an active member of the national association AMPPI.
